XL American Bully Breeders

A single breeder working out of one house in Sedona, raising XL litters by hand.

I am Greg Harpson, and I breed XL American Bullies in Sedona, Arizona, by myself. There is no kennel block, no payroll and no facility behind that. The puppies are born in my house and grow up in it, and the person who replies when you write in is the same person who raised them.

The shape of the operation

I breed in occasional litters, never on a rolling schedule, and never more than one at a time, because raising a litter properly is the part of this that cannot be hurried. The dogs that turn out well I keep; the rest I place. That is the whole of how it works, and it is deliberately small.

Puppies are handled from birth and raised in the house with the family, so they grow up used to people around them and, in particular, used to children. A puppy here leaves at nine to twelve weeks already unbothered by the television, the doorbell, people passing close by, cooking smells and children moving without warning. That early exposure is the one thing about a dog that genuinely cannot be added on later, so it is the thing I spend the most time on.

Seeing the parents for yourself

The dam lives in this house. You do not get a photograph of her, you get a live video call, at whatever hour works for you, and all you have to do is ask for it.

When you ask how big a puppy will finish, I answer in withers height for both parents, in inches. Height is the honest measure of this class. Weight is the flattering one, since a dog carrying too much reads as impressive in a photo and tells you nothing true, so I give you the heights and let you work from there.

What leaves with the puppy

An examination by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic here in Sedona before it travels, a full age-appropriate vaccination schedule, and a written health record carrying every date. The protocol in full.

I’ll take back any dog I’ve bred, at any point in its life, with no time limit and no questions asked. No clock on it and no conditions. If life turns over on you in year seven, the dog comes back to me and not to a shelter or a listings page.

The line I will not cross

I do not screen or certify the parents, and nothing on this site will ever pretend otherwise. No hip scoring, no genetic panel, no certificate of any kind. In place of that there is a general veterinary examination and the daily, close observation of the one person who raised the litter from birth. If a certified programme is what matters to you, go and buy from one that truly runs it.

I also will not promise you an adult weight, a colour or a finished temperament. What I will give you is the range the class falls in and a frank read of what the parents are like, which is the same information with no promise bolted onto it.

Why one person can charge what I charge

Nothing to rent, nobody on the books, no advertising spend. For a kennel carrying all of that those are real line items that have to be recovered somewhere. Here they are not costs at all, so instead of turning into margin they come straight off the price. The longer version of that answer, or go and meet the XLs available now.

The terms every puppy here leaves on

The price sits on the card, with nothing added at the end of the conversation. Examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it travels, sent home with a written health record and enough of its own food to change over slowly, and delivered anywhere in the country by road or by a nanny who flies it in the cabin, never in cargo.

I don’t screen or certify the parents and won’t claim I do. What I do is have every puppy examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it leaves, and the dates go on the record that travels with the dog.
