Brindle American Bully for Sale

Nothing brindle in the current group, and I’d sooner tell you that than steer you toward a coat that is close and hope you don’t look twice. Everything I do have is further down.

See what’s here Ask about the next litter

I’ve no brindle puppies in the current group. The coat is uncommon in the breed, and the first thing worth saying is that scarcity and quality are two separate measurements. I’m Greg Harpson, I’ve bred American Bullies here since 2015, and coat is the last thing I select for, well behind temperament and behind structure.

Nothing brindle standing this week

Coats turn over litter by litter, and dressing up a near match as the real thing helps nobody. Tell me the coat you’re set on and I’ll say plainly whether it’s on the way. What’s actually here is just below.

Here’s what is here instead

These coats are in the group today, and I’ve put the nearest thing to brindle at the front so you can judge it for yourself.

The genetics behind a brindle coat

The kbr allele at the K locus, which lays dark striping over a lighter base coat. In the dominance order at that locus it sits between solid black above it and the A-locus patterns below it.

Reading a brindle, and what it gets muddled with

Confused with sable, which carries dark-tipped hairs rather than true stripes, and with reverse brindle, where the striping is dense enough that the base colour reads as the stripe instead. Look at direction to settle it: brindle stripes run vertically down the ribs.

Where brindle sits in the breed

Brindle is an old, well-established pattern across the bull breeds, and it happens to be out of fashion in the American Bully at the moment, which is exactly what makes it one of the genuinely good buys going. A brindle from a strong litter is the same dog as its littermate in a showier coat, with no dilution risk and no merle risk anywhere near it. Fashion in coat colour swings on a cycle of a few years. The dog lives for twelve, and the pattern will have stopped mattering to you long before then.

Out of fashion in the breed right now, which means it is sold plainly and without the scarcity pitch, and that works in a careful buyer’s favour. Temperament and structure aside, it is the same animal as the coat the market is currently excited about, minus any colour-linked risk.

To place it against its neighbours, here is how brindle compares on how scarce it really is and on how often buyers go looking for it. The coats beside it in the table are the ones people most often weigh against brindle.

What this coat means for the dog’s health

Nothing specific to the coat. A brindle carries no colour-linked health concern of its own.

Beyond the coat, the rest is about the breed rather than the colour. The full picture is here, and you can see how every coat lines up.

I don’t screen or certify the parents and I won’t pretend otherwise. What I do stand behind: every puppy is examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it leaves, it has had DHPP with the booster and the canine influenza shot by ten weeks and been dewormed between two and ten weeks, the written record travels with it, and you take it to your own vet inside the first week. Any dog I breed can come back to me at any point in its life.

Set on a brindle?

Tell me what you’re after and I’ll say honestly whether it’s coming, rather than take a deposit against something I can’t promise.
