Yes, there is 1 blue tri American Bully puppy for sale here today. The coat is uncommon in the breed, and the first thing worth saying is that scarcity and quality are two separate measurements. I’m Greg Harpson, I’ve bred American Bullies here since 2015, and coat is the last thing I select for, well behind temperament and behind structure.

The blue tri puppy standing with me now

This is the only blue tri puppy in the group as it stands, so what you see is the whole of it. Each one has been looked over by my vet before it travels, with the dates written down for you to keep.

The genetics behind a blue tri coat

Dilution and tan points together: d/d at the D locus over a black base diluting it to blue, with at producing the tan points and white spotting filling in the third colour.

Reading a blue tri, and what it gets muddled with

Confused with lilac tri, and the mislabelling nearly always runs in the direction of a blue being sold as a lilac, because the lilac name carries further. A blue tri is cleanly grey, with no brown warmth anywhere in the pigment.

Where blue tri sits in the breed

Blue tri is the most popular of the non-merle tri combinations, and it is a clean illustration of how the demand in this breed stacks rather than simply adds up. Blue draws its own following, the tri pattern draws its own following, and putting the two together pulls harder than either does alone. At the level of the genes it is a diluted black dog wearing tan points, which is not a difficult thing to produce. That is worth keeping in mind when the sales pitch tries to make it sound like it was.

The most sought-after of the non-merle tris, which keeps the marketing around it fairly busy, but the genetics are not demanding: it is a diluted black with tan points, a combination that is not hard to breed. Weigh the demand against the ease of production and you will read any listing more clearly.

To place it against its neighbours, here is how blue tri compares on how scarce it really is and on how often buyers go looking for it. The coats beside it in the table are the ones people most often weigh against blue tri.

What this coat means for the dog’s health

Colour dilution alopecia off the D locus, since the base is diluted. No merle risk unless merle happens to be present separately.

Plenty of diluted dogs carry a perfect coat their whole lives, so this is a thing to understand rather than a thing to fear. It isn’t painful and it isn’t dangerous. It is permanent once it appears, it needs managing, and it is tied specifically to the diluted coats, which is a detail the glossiest listings tend to leave out.

Beyond the coat, the rest is about the breed rather than the colour. The full picture is here, and you can see how every coat lines up.

I don’t screen or certify the parents and I won’t pretend otherwise. What I do stand behind: every puppy is examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it leaves, it has had DHPP with the booster and the canine influenza shot by ten weeks and been dewormed between two and ten weeks, the written record travels with it, and you take it to your own vet inside the first week. Any dog I breed can come back to me at any point in its life.
