American Bully for Sale, No Papers

What a set of registration papers really tells you, what it cannot tell you, and why the paperwork makes no difference to my price.

Registration papers log a dog’s parentage and that is all they do. They are not a health certificate, not a verdict on quality, and not a guarantee of one single thing about the puppy in front of you. Take two puppies from the same litter, paper one and leave the other, and you are still looking at the same two dogs.

The job papers actually do

They put on record, with a registry, who the parents were. That genuinely matters if your plan is to breed, to compete or to follow a pedigree back. For a dog that is going to be a pet, it is a certificate about two animals you will never set eyes on.

The jobs papers cannot do

  • They do not vouch for health. No registry lays eyes on a dog before the paper is issued.
  • They do not grade quality. A badly built, poorly tempered dog is papered exactly as readily as a sound one.
  • They do not confirm anything. The registry writes down whatever the breeder sends in.
  • They do nothing for how the dog was raised. What happened between eight and sixteen weeks matters far more, and no certificate records a minute of it.

Why this is a search people run

Mostly because unpapered puppies tend to be the cheaper ones, and sometimes because a seller has slapped a surcharge on the papers. Both are worth seeing clearly: lodging the paperwork costs a breeder next to nothing, so a steep charge for it is margin wearing the costume of a cost.

Where I land

Whether a puppy leaves with papers or without them, my price does not move an inch. What I hand over regardless is the part that genuinely counts and that no registry supplies: a named veterinarian whose number you can dial, a written health record carrying real dates, a live look at the dam, and a dog I will take back at any point across its whole life.

Buying somewhere else, weigh those four things rather than whether a certificate happens to exist. How to check a breeder properly.

Full detail on every puppy

Every puppy, the same terms

The figure on the card is the figure, with nothing bolted on at the close. Examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it travels, sent home with a written health record and enough of its food to change over gradually, and delivered anywhere in the country, by road or by a nanny who carries the puppy in the cabin and never in a cargo hold.

I don’t screen or certify the parents and won’t claim I do. What I do is have every puppy examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it leaves, and the dates go on the record that travels with the dog.
