Female American Bully for Sale
What choosing a female over a male in this breed actually changes, and the one situation where the choice genuinely matters.
Within any one class a female American Bully tends to stand about an inch shorter and carry ten to twenty pounds less than a male, and she usually finishes growing up a little sooner. What most buyers get back to front is temperament: the gap between the sexes is small next to the gap between one individual and the next.
Where the sexes genuinely part
| Female | Male | |
|---|---|---|
| Height | About 1 in shorter | Taller for the class |
| Weight | 10 to 20 lb lighter | Heavier |
| Maturity | Earlier, around 18 months | Later, up to 3 years |
| Build | Less head and chest | Broader head, more substance |
| Same-sex tolerance | Can narrow with other females | Can narrow with other males |
The beliefs that do not hold up
A female is not automatically the calmer, sweeter or more biddable one, and a male is not automatically the one that will guard you. Those are stereotypes, and they fall apart the moment you spend an afternoon with an actual litter: the steadiest puppy in the box is a male about as often as it is a female.
So choose on the individual puppy in front of you and on the size you want to live with. The exception, and it is a real one, is a household that already has a dog. There, sex is the thing that predicts best, because same-sex tolerance is where the difference actually bites. Two females under one roof, or two males, is more likely to need managing than a mixed pair.
Spaying
Do not default to the six-month figure; ask your own vet about timing. With a large breed there is a sound argument for holding off until the growth plates have closed, and it is a conversation worth having in full rather than in passing. Set aside $300 to $600 for it.
Every puppy, the same terms
The figure on the card is the figure, with nothing bolted on at the close. Examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it travels, sent home with a written health record and enough of its food to change over gradually, and delivered anywhere in the country, by road or by a nanny who carries the puppy in the cabin and never in a cargo hold.
I don’t screen or certify the parents and won’t claim I do. What I do is have every puppy examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it leaves, and the dates go on the record that travels with the dog.
Ask me anything
The awkward questions included, and that goes for a puppy you are weighing up from somebody else as well.
