For Texas buyers

American Bully Breeders for Texas

What the state law actually permits, how a puppy crosses from Arizona to Texas, and how to buy well whether from me or a breeder down the road.

I will not call myself a Texas breeder, because I am not one. I am in Sedona, Arizona, and I deliver into Texas. Texas runs one of the biggest bully markets anywhere, and with a market that size comes a crowd of people reselling dogs they never raised, so this page is written to help you buy well in Texas even if the dog turns out not to be mine.

Where Texas draws the legal line

The Texas Health and Safety Code bars any municipality from making dog rules that single out a breed. Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin cannot ban this breed and have not. What the state enforces instead is a dangerous-dog framework that answers to the behaviour of the individual animal, not its breed.

The one gap is privatised military base housing, which restricts through the lease and sits wholly outside that statute. Texas has a great deal of that housing.

Four things I would ask any breeder, and how I answer them

  1. Who examines the puppies before they leave? Mine are seen by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before they travel.
  2. Will you show me the dam and the puppy on a live video call? I will, whenever suits you, rather than send photographs.
  3. How many litters do you run in a year? Occasional ones, and only ever one at a time.
  4. What happens if it does not work out? I’ll take back any dog I’ve bred, at any point in its life, with no time limit and no questions asked.

If a breeder forty minutes down the road from you answers all four cleanly, buy from them with my blessing. Distance is a weak reason to pass over a good local breeder, and I will tell you as much.

What I put on the table from a thousand miles off

The same four answers given above, puppies raised in my house rather than in a run, and a delivery that never puts a dog in a cargo hold. The price is the price, the same for a Texas buyer as for anyone else. How delivery to Texas works.

Full detail on every puppy

Every puppy, the same terms

The figure on the card is the figure, with nothing bolted on at the close. Examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it travels, sent home with a written health record and enough of its food to change over gradually, and delivered anywhere in the country, by road or by a nanny who carries the puppy in the cabin and never in a cargo hold.

I don’t screen or certify the parents and won’t claim I do. What I do is have every puppy examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it leaves, and the dates go on the record that travels with the dog.
