Florida, and the Miami-Dade exception
Florida has preempted breed-specific local ordinances since 1990, with one large exception: Miami-Dade County was grandfathered in with a ban it already held, and that ban ran on for better than three decades afterward. The county has since repealed it, which brings Miami-Dade back into line with the rest of the state.
Given that history, a Miami buyer is entirely right to confirm the current position with county animal services directly rather than take any web page’s word for it, this one included. Everywhere else in Florida the preemption has held for thirty-five years and your city cannot ban the breed.

Whatever your state has decided, the two things worth getting in writing before you commit are your own city or county code and your landlord, association or insurer, since a private rule answers to none of the state law above. The hardest climate in the country for this dog
Florida is the most difficult environment I deliver a puppy into, and I would sooner say so on the page than after you have paid. Heat stacked on high humidity, for eight or nine months of the year in the south of the state, is precisely the mix a short muzzle cannot manage, because panting only cools a dog while the surrounding air can still take on the moisture.
It is entirely doable, and a great many bullies live well in Florida. It simply demands a household that has truly signed up for an air-conditioned dog walked early and late, and that recognises early heat stress for what it is: heavy panting that will not settle, a dark red tongue, unsteadiness. The other Florida-specific point is condo and HOA density, where deed restrictions on weight and breed are common and are enforced by the association rather than the city, so the state preemption never reaches them.
