Classic American Bully for Sale

The least exaggerated of the four classes, and the one I steer people toward more often than any other.

A classic American Bully stands at standard height but carries far less bulk: lighter bone, a narrower front, a longer muzzle. Of the four classes it sits nearest to the dogs this breed came from, and because the market pays for mass it happens to be the one you get most dog for.

How to recognise one

Put a classic and a standard side by side at the same 17 to 20 inches and the height matches. Everything else is lighter. Less bone in the leg, a chest that is deep rather than barrelled, a muzzle with room in it. Athletic where the standard is blocky, and that single difference in substance is the whole of what separates the two.

Where it beats the heavier classes day to day

Three things follow from carrying less. A longer muzzle cools better, so a classic copes with a hot afternoon that would flatten a compressed dog. Less mass and less skin fold means fewer of the joint and dermatitis problems that follow this breed. And there is stamina in it, so a real walk is a pleasure to the dog rather than something endured. None of that costs the look: a classic reads as a bully to anyone who sees one coming.

The price is low only because fashion currently rewards width. Fashion turns over on a schedule of its own. The dog in front of you is going to live twelve years regardless of what the market wanted the year you bought it.

The buyer it fits

Someone who means to hike with the dog. Someone in a climate that punishes a short muzzle. Anyone who has worked through what tends to go wrong in the breed and reached the sensible conclusion. And anyone who simply wants the soundest version of the breed for the least money, which right now is this one.

The terms every puppy here leaves on

The price sits on the card, with nothing added at the end of the conversation. Examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it travels, sent home with a written health record and enough of its own food to change over slowly, and delivered anywhere in the country by road or by a nanny who flies it in the cabin, never in cargo.

I don’t screen or certify the parents and won’t claim I do. What I do is have every puppy examined by Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic before it leaves, and the dates go on the record that travels with the dog.
