American Bully Puppy Price
What the breed costs at eight to twelve weeks, the way the asking price slides as a puppy gets older, and why the discounted older one is so often the pick of the litter.
Across the market an American Bully puppy runs about $1,500 to $3,500 at eight to twelve weeks, and the asking price tends to drop the longer a puppy stays unsold. I hold mine at $700 from the youngest ready-to-leave age right through, because I do not price a puppy by the week and I will not knock money off the one that happened to be chosen last.
Why the older puppy is so often the smart buy
A four-month-old still with its breeder is usually unsold for reasons that have nothing to do with the dog: it was the calm one in a litter of show-offs, or the listing photos did it no favours, or buyers kept reaching past it for a flashier littermate. More often than not it is the steadiest animal of the bunch.
The one thing you have to interrogate at that age is socialisation, because the window that matters closes around sixteen weeks. Ask exactly what the puppy has met by now: strangers, traffic, other dogs, a range of surfaces underfoot, a car journey. A four-month-old brought up inside a home is a fine buy. A four-month-old that has spent four months in an outdoor run is a project you are taking on with your eyes open.
Mine grow up indoors with the family from the day they are born, so the ones still here at four months have had four months of all of that, not a standing start.
How the market prices a puppy by age
| Age | Typical market price | What is going on |
|---|---|---|
| 6 to 7 weeks | Highest asking price | Too young to leave. Avoid |
| 8 to 12 weeks | Peak legitimate price | The normal window. Most demand |
| 3 to 5 months | Often discounted 20 to 40% | Unsold puppies. Frequently good value |
| 6 months and up | Discounted heavily | Sold as "started". Check socialisation |
| Adult, retired from breeding | Low or a rehoming fee | Can be an excellent buy |
Nothing honest leaves at six or seven weeks. A puppy taken from the litter before eight weeks misses learning bite inhibition and dog-to-dog manners from its littermates, and that gap shows up for the rest of its life. It is also against the law in many states. A seller dangling a six-week-old puppy is telling you exactly what sort of seller they are.
Why my price does not move
Two reasons, both about the buyer. The moment a breeder prices by the week, they start needing a given puppy gone by a given date, and that quiet pressure is how dogs end up placed in homes that were never right for them. And discounting the last puppy hangs a label on the person who buys it, telling them they took the leftover. That is untrue, and it is a sour note to start twelve years on.
So it is $700 at nine weeks and $700 at five months, with nothing added at the end of the conversation.

The ones that have been here longest included. They are often the steadiest of the group, and they cost no less for the wait.
